Marine rubber fenders are essential safety devices used on ships, docks, and other maritime structures to absorb the energy produced during ship-to-ship or ship-to-dock contact. These fenders protect both the vessel and the port infrastructure from damage during mooring, berthing, and STS (Ship-to-Ship) operations. They are typically made of durable rubber or elastomeric materials and are designed to withstand repeated impacts over an extended period.
Functions of Marine Rubber Fenders
- Impact Absorption: Marine rubber fenders are designed to absorb the kinetic energy of the ship when it comes into contact with a dock or another vessel. The energy is absorbed through compression, reducing the force transmitted to the hull of the ship and the dock.
- Protection: They protect both the vessel and dock infrastructure from damage by cushioning the impact, thus preventing dents, scratches, and structural damage.
- Mooring Assistance: Fenders help to ensure the vessel remains in a secure position during mooring operations by minimizing ship movement and providing a stable interface between the vessel and dock.
