07/04/2025
Salvaging Nanhai No.1 with Marine Airbags
07/04/2025Project Summary
- Use: Ship Launching
- Ship Name: HEMING
- Ship Launching Airbags Used: 80+ units
- Ship Launching Airbag Size: D1.5m × L18m
- Country: China
- Year: 2012
On June 6, 2012, the 73,000-ton bulk carrier HEMING launched smoothly using over 80 pieces of NANHAI ship launching airbags. This successful launch broke old limits in the shipbuilding industry and showed that ship launching airbags work even for very large ships.

NANHAI Marine Airbags Made It Possible
In the past, many shipbuilders believed that ship launching airbags only worked for ships under 180 meters in length and under 30,000 tons in weight. But NANHAI changed that idea. We helped launch HEMING, a ship that is:
- 224.8 meters long
- 34 meters wide
- 18.5 meters deep
- With a draft of 10.5 meters
- Total tonnage: 42,027 tons
- Net tonnage: 23,414 tons
- Main engine power: 8,705 kW
This project proved that NANHAI ship launching airbags can handle ships over 70,000 tons—and even up to 100,000 tons in the future.
Why Shipyards Choose NANHAI Ship Launching Airbags
1. Strong and Reliable
NANHAI airbags are made with high-strength materials. They carry heavy loads and work safely under pressure. During the HEMING launch, the airbags stayed stable and handled the full ship weight without any problem.
2. Flexible and Cost-Saving
Airbag launching does not need a dry dock or fixed launching track. This saves shipyards a lot of construction time and cost. Our airbags roll smoothly, making the launch safe and controlled.
3. Full Support from Our Team
We don’t just sell airbags—we support your whole project. Our engineers help with the layout, pressure control, and on-site work. We make sure the launch runs perfectly from start to finish.
A Big Step Forward in Ship Launching
The HEMING project showed that airbag launching is not just for small ships anymore. With NANHAI airbags, even very large ships can launch safely and efficiently.
This successful launch is not just a job well done—it’s a clear sign that NANHAI technology is leading the way in ship launching innovation.
