STS Operation Procedure

STS Operation

Vessel Positioning

  • Alignment: Carefully position the vessels side by side, maintaining the required distance between them to ensure a stable and secure transfer. Typically, the vessels will be positioned at a slight angle to minimize the risk of collision.
  • Slow Approach: Approach the other vessel at a slow speed and allow sufficient time for fine adjustments.

Mooring and Securing

  • Secure Mooring Lines: Once the vessels are in position, secure the mooring lines on both vessels, ensuring they are evenly distributed to keep the vessels in place.
  • Pneumatic Fender Adjustment: Adjust the fenders to ensure that they are providing adequate protection during the operation. It is recommended to equip two to four pneumatic rubber fenders between two ships

Cargo Transfer Operations

  • Check Cargo Systems: Ensure that all cargo systems (pumps, pipelines, manifolds) are set up and ready for operation.
  • Transfer Start: Begin the transfer of cargo once everything is secure, ensuring that the transfer rate is safe and within operational limits.
  • Monitoring: Continuously monitor the cargo transfer, checking for leaks, equipment malfunction, and stability of both vessels. Constant communication between vessels is essential.
